This past week I started my last semester in my Game Development degree. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I'm taking quite a lot of classes and am delving much further into programming. Of the new developments this past week though, one is really exciting.

My friend and fellow classmate, Crysta Frost is developing a game at school called Last Fate. Last Fate seems like it will be really cool. It is being developed using the Oculus and Leap motion, and will be developed for the PC. The game, which is sort of a puzzle solving game, revolves around the hero, who in order to save his mother needs to find a certain potion. However, once he found that potion he steps on a trap door and falls into the alchemist's dungeon and now is trying to get out by any means neccesary. In order to survive he must learn four different elemental sigils to solve the puzzles within the dungeon and finally escape. The game is pretty far along in development and the ideas and mechanics seem very advanced and really awesome. Crysta however, had a lot of time to recruit members and had her team fill up pretty quickly. I have to say I was a bit disappointed to find that there was not a technical artist or software engineer position available, but everything had already been filled. I also figured since my school schedule is so hectic this semester, that working on this project just wasn't meant to be.

This past week however one of Crysta's members dropped from the team and made room for a position, I luckily, could fill. I went to the first meeting for the game, and it seems official that I am now the VFX/Particle effects team member. I'm really excited about working on this game. The technology is really cool to work with and the game seems to be something that has a lot of potential.

I started this week my re-developing some of the skills you have as the hero. The sigils which are learned throughout the dungeon are used as a way to solve the puzzles throughout the different rooms. For instance, you may need to used the water skill to douse a fire which is blocking your exit, or something along those lines.

I'm developing a warm up particle effect, something that shows the skill becoming whole. Then I'm doing the actual spell effect, and finally the "hit" effect. I'm starting with the water and fire skills this week and will be moving on to earth and air later on.

Anyways, I'm really excited about this oppurtunity and will keep this post updated with more info and details as they come!
