Hello, I wanted to write a quick update on the stuff I have been working on lately. I am in the beginning stages of developing a VR game with an old co-worker of mine, which we are really excited about. I will write a post more on that later. I have also started rigging a new character one, I am really excited about. The character was modeled by a different old co-worker. The character is a sort of archer that was based off a concept art piece he saw, really liked, and with permission modeled out. The character is something a bit different from what I normally do, so it offers some unique challenges. The style it was modeled in was almost a pixar-esque style. Very smooth lines, and soft shapes. I don't tend to do a lot of organic rigging as is, or it's organic with a touch of mechanical, so something purely organic, that is smooth and soft will be really fun. I knew I wanted to do a really nice clean face rig, since this character's topology is great, and I imagine him to be the hero character. He has a sort of kilt on, which I'm accounting for by adding a few more joints, so the animator can make some nice movements when the character moves. He also had a bow and quiver so I am making a few extra joints so that he can equip not only the bow, but also grab an arrow out of the quiver. Should be a bit challenging but fun. I am also taking this opportunity to write an FK/IK matching automation tool in Python for future use. I had forgotten how annoying setting up everything for FK/IK matching can be, so as Tech artists always say, "If you have to do it more than once, automate it!". Anyways, I will post again once I have finished weighting the character, and maybe have some cool poses to show.
